How long is my student expected to work each day?
Posted by:Expectations for online learning will be dependent on the grade level of the student and how many courses he/she is taking online. Parents and students should plan on spending roughly 1 to 1.5 hours per day/per subject area. If students finish early, great, the extra time can be spent reading or relaxing.
-
Does my student have to log in at a certain time every day?
Posted by:Students are not required to log in to complete assignments at a specific time during the day; however, students are expected to log in every day to complete work. They may also be expected to join and participate in full-class, small-group, or individual Google Meet sessions.
-
Does my student have to check in every day?
Posted by:Yes. Students should expect daily or weekly pacing guides in their learning. They should expect homework, assignments, and assessments of their knowledge and understanding of the course standards and content. Students should expect to invest at least one hour each day for each subject/class period they are taking online.

What will an online class look like?
Posted by:All Grand Blanc teachers will use Canvas platform for the virtual courses. The courses will either be a Grand Blanc-created class, a course created by a fully accredited content provider, or (on rare occasions) a third-party vendor secured through the GenNet Portal. (Outside vendor courses will not be provided through Canvas, and students will recieve login information from their online homeroom teacher.) All assignments and work will be submitted through the platform used. Teachers will provide feedback and give grades. Elementary students will be expected to participate in full-class, small-group, or individual Google Meet sessions. Secondary students will have little to no direct instruction from teachers, but they will be invited to participate in weekly office hours.
-
Would an online student be marked absent if they did not check in for the day?
Posted by:Attendance is determined by student participation in two-way contacts. Homeroom teachers will communicate two-way contact expectations, and students must respond to these promptly and regularly in order to be counted in attendance. Students who do not participate in regular two-way contacts may be eligiable for truancy.
-
Will teachers be available to interact or answer questions they have during school hours?
Posted by:Teachers may interact with students virtually through Google Meets, but the type and frequency will depend on the course and grade level. In an online setting, responses to questions may not be as immediate as they would be in a face-to-face setting, as teachers may also be teaching during the school day. Students or guardians should expect a response within 24 hours, except on the weekends. Teachers will also maintain office hours at least twice a week.
