  • What is Bobcat Virtual?

    Posted by:

Bobcat Virtual is an online education program established for families with students in grades K-12 looking for a robust, fully virtual option. Bobcat Virtual is an exclusively online teaching and learning experience. (It is entirely different from what GB students experienced at the end of the 2019-20 school year during the unplanned remote learning brought on by Covid-19.)

In many cases, the content has been created and developed by Grand Blanc Community Schools' own teachers. For online classes that have not been developed previously, Bobcat Virtual has invested in courses facilitated through Accelerate Education. Accelerate Education is a very reputable company that has developed an online catalog of classes for K-12. It will be the main source of content for K-5 classes.

  • Is there a deadline to enroll in Bobcat Virtual for the 2020-21 school year?

    Posted by:

We are asking that if current Grand Blanc students are interested in this online option, they contact Student Accounting to notify the district by August 10, 2020.

We understand this is a difficult decision and that circumstances can change in those last couple of weeks, but for those families who are ready to commit, it will help us be able to plan for face-to-face classroom/building/staffing/transportation needs.

We anticipate providing much more detailed information about the blended learning model for Phase 4 (see State of Michigan MI Safe Start plan) and all other phases by the end of July, so there should be a couple of weeks for your family to ask questions and make this decision.

  • What sets Bobcat Virtual apart from other programs?

    Posted by:

In all cases, classes are facilitated by our amazing Grand Blanc Community Schools certified teachers and staff. The classes are fully endorsed, accredited, and supported by our district. Students will earn regular school credit from Grand Blanc, including high school level accredited classes. In other words, students will be Bobcats! If they choose to, they may participate in extracurriculars, including athletics! High school honors and AP courses are available where appropriate.

  • What commitment is involved?

    Posted by:

Students and families will make a minimum of a one-semester commitment to Bobcat Virtual in order to maintain the best overall learning experience. Elementary students (K-5) will need a parent/guardian “learning coach” at home to provide valuable guidance in partnership with the program. The teachers, as well as the design of Accelerate Education, will assist and guide the learning coach. This partnership is essential for success.

For students K-5, teachers will virtually meet with students as needed (and at least weekly). Regular virtual meets will occur for secondary students as well.

Students will be required to "attend" courses daily (login and complete assignments on a daily basis).

Students and their parents can expect and plan for about 40 to 60 minutes per subject, per day.

  • Can my student participate in after-school activities as an online student?

    Posted by:

Yes! Your student is a Grand Blanc Bobcat and can try out for/participate in extracurriculars, clubs, and sports, as they are available. Please see the building websites to stay up-to-date on what is available, when tryouts are taking place, etc. Transportation would not be available to or from activities, however.

  • Can my child participate in Bobcat Virtual if we live outside of the district boundaries?

    Posted by:

Students in grades K-9 are welcome to register for Bobcat Virtual and must complete the online application for District of Choice. That application deadline has been extended for this program only. Please fill out the application and notify Student Accounting that you are interested in Bobcat Virtual at (810) 591-6021.

  • Does my child have to do school work at a certain time?

    Posted by:

Students are required to complete their work according to the pacing guide, which is determined by the start and end dates. Working at a steady pace will allow on-time completion of courses, but a student’s daily schedule is up to the student and parent/guardian. Synchronous sessions will be scheduled by the student and are flexible.

  • How do I check on my child's progress?

    Posted by:

Parents are enrolled as observers in their child’s courses. As long as a valid email is provided, observers and students are emailed weekly progress reports. Additionally, observers may log in to our learning management system at any time to see grades, pacing, course material, and teacher feedback. Contact information is present within the course so that a parent may contact the student’s teacher.

  • Does this mean Grand Blanc isn't having face-to-face classes?

    Posted by:

No. This is a separate option from whatever our status is at the beginning of the school year.

Our plan is briefly outlined in the "Roadmap" updates but could be one of several situations and is dependent upon what phase we are in as determined by the State of Michigan. Phases 1-3 would mean everyone was remote learning (a completely separate program from Bobcat Virtual) until the infection situation improves. In Phase 4, students will likely see a hybrid combination of face-to-face and remote learning (more information to be provided by the end of July). In Phase 5 & 6, students participating in the regular curriculum would be back in class full time. These situations are subject to change as time goes on and public health changes, but the Bobcat Virtual would stay the same... 100% virtual. In order to switch over to face-to-face, you will have to request registration change and likely wait until the end of a semester.
