Q & A

  • Governor Whitmer stated that school was supposed to start back in April. What is happening?

    Posted by: GBCS

Per Governor Whitmer's Executive Order 2020-35 all "in-person education" has been suspended for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

GBCS staff has been working on a remote learning plan for students that will be shared with district families in the coming days.  Thank you for your continued support through these very extraordinary circumstances.

  • Will school sports start back even when school isn't in session?

Per the MHSAA site, The Michigan High School Athletic Association will announce no later than Friday (April 3) afternoon the status of its 2019-20 Winter and Spring seasons, after the directive by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer closing school buildings and moving education online during her ordered “state of disaster.”

  • I heard that there may be online/virtual resources available for GBCS students. Where are those?

    Posted by: GBCS

General family resources for home learning can be found here.

Online/Virtual Learning Resources for GBCS students have been compiled, by teacher/staff member, to make it easier for students/parents to find the correct resource.  Look for the "Virtual Learning Resources by Building" links to the right, visit https://www.gbcs.org/vl4students, or visit any building homepage to access the resources.

Resources are broken down by building, with each building having its own page, then alphabetically by staff last name*.  Click on the link to access any resources made available by that teacher.

  • I heard that some teachers may use virtual meeting rooms. How to do those work?

    Posted by: GBCS

While entirely optional, several staff members may use virtual meeting rooms to conduct virtual, "in person", sessions with their students.  The two platforms teachers will use are Zoom and/or Google Meet.

It is very easy for a student to join a meeting set up by their teacher and meeting links will be emailed out to students and/or posted to the student virtual learning resource page next to their teacher's name.

For more information on using these platforms, please see the student tutorials for Zoom and Google Meet.

  • My student has a chromebook that needs to be repaired. How does that get done?

    Posted by: GBCS

For the duration of the mandated district closure, we will be unable to repair Chromebooks. Once school is back in session, students can follow the normal Chromebook repair procedures and visit their school library to initiate a repair.

If this changes in the future, we will update this site.
