Step 1: Introduction to Grand Blanc Community Schools
Welcome to the beginning of your student's journey at Grand Blanc Community Schools!
Please watch the following presentation from Dr. Trevor Alward, Deputy Superintendent:
Please note! Children MUST be 5 years old by September 1st, 2021 to begin kindergarten.
(Waiver is available for children who turn 5 between September 1st and December 1st.)
Step 2: Find your building.
Click on the map to enlarge it and find your elementary school! If you are having trouble, please call 810.591.1695 for assistance with validating your exact address.
Step 3: Visit your building below for virtual building tours and a greeting from your principal!
Step 4: Register Online for Kindergarten!
Online registration will open at xx on February 23rd.
In addition to filling out your student and family's information and emergency contact information, you can also upload the documents we need digitally through the registration portal. If you experience difficulty, make an appointment to drop them off at your building at a later time.
The documents we will need by the start of school are:
- Child's Original/Certified Birth Certificate. If your child was not born in the United States, a valid passport is acceptable.
- Proof of vision screening, completed after age 3; submit a statement from examining official. Michigan Law requires a vision screening for kindergarten entrance. Vision screening done in preschool by a health department technician or at a doctor’s office fulfills this requirement. Your child's pediatrician may have screened your child at a well-child visit, so that office is a great place to start. Click here for Genesee County Health Department information.
- Parent/Guardian Identification (valid driver's license or picture identification card with district address.)
- Official Immunization Record (use Immunization Checklist or submit a copy of the official record.)
- Certified Copy of Appointment of Guardianship (if applicable.)
This Virtual Packet contains information you can read or print out for more information.
Step 5: Wait to hear from your building!
You will likely be asked to sign your child up for a "Brigance" screening test. This test screens kindergarten-age-appropriate skills such as motor skills, letter and color identification, language/speech skills, problem-solving, identification of objects, etc. The test is done at one of our buildings by our own staff members. The results are used to assist teachers in knowing where your child is at to begin the year.
Getting to know your building and staff
You will also hear more from your building about open house/teddy bear bus rides, neighborhood bus stops/times, food service accounts, latchkey programs, and much more before the start of school! Please be patient while families register and our student accounting staff get students placed into buildings in our system.
Please feel free to call our district administrative office if you have general questions and don't know what your home building will be: 810.591.6000
For more specific questions, please call your building office. All offices are open until mid-June (currently from 9am-3pm - reduced hours during COVID-19.)
Anderson Elementary: 810.591.5829 • Brendel Elementary: 810.591.6137 • Cook Elementary: 810.591.7910
Indian Hill Elementary: 810.591.4100 • Myers Elementary: 810591.3003 • Reid Elementary: 810.591.7121
Online registration gives the building your information for contact purposes. You should begin receiving communication through our messaging system, Blackboard, sometime after you register your child and they are placed in a building. If school starts and you're not receiving those messages, please make sure they aren't going to spam and contact your building to have them look into the situation.
Download our Grand Blanc Community Schools App from the Google Play or Apple App Store for free today! You can receive notifications and access information quickly on your mobile device!
We also post updates to this website and, if you're on social media, consider following our district @gbcsbobcats and look for your individual buildings, as well. Although all don't have both, they will either have a Twitter or Facebook account where they post updates. Some also have parent/PTO groups that are not operated by school staff.
Watch for digital newsletters from your building via email and consider
participating in your building PTO in the fall!
