Youth Work Permits
Beginning October 2, 2026, local school districts will no longer issue youth employment (work) permits. This means that our schools and district staff will no longer issue or process work permits for students. Students and families in need of work permits should visit the State of Michigan’s Youth Employment website.
Instead, minors and employers will complete the permit process directly through the new online portal with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO).
A valid work permit issued by a Michigan school before YEPP launches will continue to be honored. A minor will not need to obtain a new permit solely because the permitting process moved to YEPP.
