Employee Benefits: What's New in 2025?

You will see a small increase in your Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan health insurance cost beginning January 1, 2025 due to rising premium costs. We are pleased to continue to offer comprehensive medical plans at competitive rates.

Effective January 1, 2025, our prescription coverage is moving to a 3 tier prescription plan.

There are now 3 tiers of Rx co-pays. These costs are also outlined in the new 2025 Employee Benefit Guides.

Grand Blanc Community Schools will be utilizing the Preferred Drug List Formulary. The BCBSM Preferred Drug List is a useful tool to view the drug tier for some specific medications.

Any members obtaining a specialty medication (falling in the Specialty category) will be required to utilize Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy or a local Walgreens Retail Pharmacy.

Beginning January 1, 2025 BCBSM will no longer cover prescriptions for glucagon-like peptide-agonist drugs (GLP-1) used for weight loss, including Saxenda, Wegovy and Zepbound. If you decide to use these medications for weight loss in 2025, you will be responsible for the full cost.
For HDHP (teachers and administrators only) the 2025 in-network deductible is $1,650 single and $3,300 for 2 person and full family plans. Each year the IRS sets these deductibles for a plan to qualify as a HDHP (high deductible health plan).
