Winter Coach's Meeting at GBHS Featured Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training and More!
Grand Blanc Athletics held their winter coachs' meeting on Sunday, November 6th. Various GB sports from middle and high school were represented! GBHS Athletic Director, Jerrod Dohm, hosted the event in the west campus cafeteria.
The district's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team presented first. Sonya James, Ed. S., Director of DEI, and members of the DEI team - Katie Whitenack, Laurie Erlenbeck, and Holly Avery - led a discussion with the group about how they can incorporate practices into coaching that create a healthier and more inclusive team culture, and how that contributes to a positive culture during the school day and benefits the whole community.
Three breakout sessions followed. Dr. Jeremy Mitchell, Director of Personnel, gave a presentation on Resilient Culture, a program utilized by the administration at Grand Blanc to help build mental strength and fortitude. Mr. Ian Samuelson introduced his strength and conditioning program that's available to GBHS teams/athletes along with all the benefits of the program. Varstiy Football Coach, Kaleb Forr, and Varsity Softball Coach, Jamie Neubecker, also led a group discussion about how to build strong and positive team environments where coaches shared tips and strategies with one another.
The sessions were packed with great information for coaches to take back and use to build successful teams that will be strong, competitive, and cohesive while giving students a positive school sports experience. Thank you to the athletic department for providing this opportunity and to all our coaches who give their time and energy to help Grand Blanc Schools guide our large population of student-athletes!
